For Further Progress in Clinical Examination

Our Department of Laboratory Medicine, Hokkaido University Medical Hospital, accomplished a big evolution after its transfer to the new building in March, 1997.
Most notable is that we much shortened the time until reporting through inducing an automated laboratory system and opening the central blood drawing room within our laboratory.
We now can return reports within minutes or hours, which is convenient particularly to out patients from remote areas.
In the new building, many clinical examination laboratories once apart from each other are now unified on a single floor, which has made the co-operation among laboratory staffs better.
The man-power saved by the automated laboratory system was effectively directed to starting the laboratories of genetics and of medical information services, as well as blood drawing service by laboratory technicians.
These new laboratories will be the basis for our higher services in the 21st century.
We will keep active for various new challenges, such as digitalization and networking in physiological examinations, and contribute as the center hospital of Hokkaido to people living in this vast area.
